♫Our Story

Meet the director

Mr. James Smith is the band director at Richland School, where he leads the instrumental music program: marching band, middle school band and high school band. He also teaches Music Appreciation, Choir and Class Guitar. He has more than 12 years of experience in education and earned a degree in Music Education from Jacksonville State University.

A growing band

This season the band marched 26 students, and 13 of them were brand new to marching band. The music program is growing, and the band has been collecting donated instruments so every student has one in hand.

What's new this year

  • New uniforms

♪About the band

This band puts in the work. Through every rehearsal, every Friday night in the stands and every competition, these students gave their all, and they did it in new uniforms with many new faces in the ranks. Their dedication paid off this season.

Drum major Charles Randall came within just two points of winning Best in Class Drum Major.
